Joining the Society
You can join or renew online with your bank card or with Paypal at: www.ngsjoin.com
If you prefer, for Postal membership only (not Online membership) you can join or renew by post. Follow the links below to download a printable form in PDF or Word format. You can pay by credit / debit card** or (in pounds sterling) by cheque, banker’s draft, money order or postal order. Post the completed form to the address shown thereon.
**It is not recommended that letters or forms which include debit or credit card details should be sent by ordinary post. Should the envelope fall into the wrong hands, the card details could be utilised to make fraudulent purchases on the member’s account.

Renewing your membership
Postal (hard journal) members’ membership numbers and renewal dates are shown on the front of the journal address sheets, above the name and address, and a renewal form is printed on the reverse. When membership becomes due for renewal, it can be effected either with the form or via the website at www.ngsjoin.com. Online (E-journal) members won’t receive the address sheets, but a reminder is included in the email which conveys the links for the journal immediately before the member’s renewal date. All members who become overdue will receive a reminder before the next journal is due for publication. If necessary, the downloadable application/renewal form (see above) may be used.
Renewals operate on the anniversary system and normally fall due twelve or thirty-six months from the date of joining. Membership is not transferable and moneys are not refundable. Your subscription expires at the end of the month stated on your membership card.

Late Renewals
LATE RENEWAL FEE: Postal members – UK £3.00, Eur £4.00, RoW £6.00; Online members – all areas £3.00
The Late Renewal Fee, which is a contribution towards expense incurred in respect of members who fail to renew on time, was re-introduced in 2013. However, to avoid the administration difficulties which had led to its previous temporary discontinuation, the difference now is that the fee, when due, is optional, but, if not paid, results in the reduction by two months of the member’s next membership period.
If you require further clarification of the foregoing, please contact the Membership Secretary. In the meantime, if your renewal is submitted promptly, you will not be affected, so don’t delay!
Late Renewals and Back Numbers
Journal by post members:
If you renew after having missed the current journal, you will receive a copy of it, and your next renewal date will be set in accordance with the above Late Renewal Fee payment conditions. However, if you have missed more than one issue, only the current journal will be sent and your next renewal date will be set accordingly, again having regard to whether or not the Late Renewal Fee has been paid. For details of how to obtain hard copies of back journals, see here.
E-journal members
If you renew having missed the current journal, you will receive the links for it with your new E-card, and your next renewal date will be set in accordance with the above Late Renewal Fee payment conditions. If you have missed more than one issue, the provision of links and date for your next renewal will be at the discretion of the Membership Secretary, again having regard to whether or not the Late Renewal Fee has been paid. However, links for previous E-journals are available free of charge on the Membership/Shop website.
Membership listings
In accordance with Data Processing restrictions, membership listings are no longer printed in the handbook or journals. The Society will not pass details of any individual member to anyone other than another bona fide member wishing to make contact for modelling or Area Group purposes. However, members are offered the facility of also opting out of the latter arrangement, should they so wish.

Can I Pay my Membership by Direct Debit or Standing Order?
At the moment, for the size of the Society, it is felt that the existing payment methods (cheque, debit/credit card, PayPal) are sufficient.
For Direct Debits, the Society would be required to register as a direct debit collector. For Standing Orders, in the event of a change in subscription or fees, it would be necessary to contact and request members to amend their arrangement. Neither payment method is suitable for the three-year renewal option.
